The desired finish of our wood paneling chosen by the designer was reminiscent of "shou sugi ban", a Japanese technique utilizing a method of burning wood in bulk as to seal it. To mimic this technique, I burned several dozen full length boards with a weed torch. The boards were cut to desired length upon hanging in space.
